Caring for the individual needs of all children
The Family Day Care Business model offers Educators the opportunity to operate a professional business in their own home with the support of Professional Coordination Unit Staff..
Family Day Care is licensed and assessed in accordance with the Education and Care Services National Framework and the National Early Learning Years Framework.
The Framework puts children’s learning at the core and comprises three inter-related elements:
Principles, Practice and Learning Outcomes. All three elements are fundamental to early childhood pedagogy and curriculum decision-making.
Working in partnership with families, Educators use the Learning Outcomes to guide their planning for children’s learning. In order to engage children actively in learning, educators identify children Educators program and plan for children to support them to learn grow and discover in a safe and secure environment.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BE AN EDUCATOR?

The ability to operate your business from your home

Can provide a warm, secure and family-focused environment for children

Demonstrates adequate knowledge, understanding and experience with children (ages 0 to 12 years) and are capable of meeting their needs

Public Liability Insurance for Family Day Care

Have or willing to obtain current First Aid Certificate, Asthma Emergency, Anaphylaxis Management

Have or are willing to obtain a minimum Certificate III in Children's Services

You are willing to undergo a National Criminal History Check (Police check)

A current "Blue Card"(Positive Prescribed Notice for Working with Children) for the educator and for every adult member of the carer's household
Preparing Your Home
We know that each home is unique, and will be assessed on how well it can provide quality child care. It will be a warm and welcoming home to care for children that both the indoor and outdoor areas are assessed as being safe.
The Coordinators will work with Educators to identify any issues, and strategies to manage and find a solution.
A guide to what we will assess in your potential FDC environment:
- A welcoming environment for all
- A space where children can store their belongings
- Appropriate resources to support children’s learning
- Areas set for children to play in groups as well as quiet play
- Children’s sleeping area
- All hazardous items out of the reach of children
- Safe sturdy indoor and outdoor equipment for all ages
- Safety glass in the care environment
- Fencing that a child cannot go over, under or through
- Pool registration certificate
